Our Project in a NutShell

Project is planning to address the common challenge of weakened sustainability of living, work, tourism and recreational environment in two Arctic National Parks: Vodlozersky National Park (NP) and Pasvik State Nature Reserve (SNR).
The evident decline in the environmental sustainability is largely occurring due to increasing anthropogenic impact on the nature and lack of access to the new technologies and solutions improving Parks’ Waste and Water Management (WWM) systems, as well as making the Parks more attractive and comfortable to for their visitors, staff and local population.

WP I. Roadmap for Digitalization and Visibility of the Arctic Parks WWM System and Its Environmental Impact

1.1.    Data collection trip by the University of Oulu to the Parks will be performed at the beginning of the Project.
1.2.    Action Plan Map for Vodlozersky NP, including environmental quality and WWM systems control points (collection, processing, disposal) for Smart/IoT Solutions and EcoMap modeling and monitoring
1.3.    Action Plan Map for Pasvik SNR, including, environmental quality and WWM systems control points (collection, processing, disposal) for Smart/IoT Solutions and EcoMap modeling and monitoring

Digital Water Testing
WP II. Digitalization of WWM Systems in the Arctic Parks, Pilots Testing

2.1.    Planning and pilot testing of the Smart/IoT WWM System HW components (Sensors and/or units, smart bins, cameras, RFID tracking sensors and receivers, etc.), as well as SW
2.2.    Adaptation of the Smart/IoT WWM Systems for each Arctic Park, based on the parks real needs
2.3.    Adaptation and pilot testing of  the Arctic Parks Infographic Eco Map (EcoMap) and its Mobile Apps, using artificial intelligence and machine learning
2.4.    Pilot testing for integration of the Arctic Parks Smart/IoT WWM Systems in one Digital Infographic Ecomap (EcoMap), providing open and specific content to the public and stakeholder based on the information confidentiality and sensitivity principles of the National Parks’ administrations and the WWM systems providers.

WP III. Communication, Visibility and Dissemination

3.1.    Establishment and implementation of efficient and effective Media and Social Media presence and coverage in Russia, Finland and Norway
3.2.    Implementation of increased visibility and knowledge transfer between the Partners and the Regional Stakeholders (targeted groups and beneficiaries, etc.) cross-border, including visibility of information flow, exchange and promotion of best practices in the Smart WWM and ecological monitoring, protection. Including, young people from three countries who will participate and learn how modern digital technologies can embrace and improve environmental sustainability in the Arctic Parks
3.3.     One kick-off, several online workshops, one final seminar and 12 months Project Awareness Campaign will be held in the social media and Partners’ website.
